Spiced Chocolate Macaroons

The original macaroon recipe called for almond paste and meringue. The recipe for these cookies is reminiscent of that 500 year old recipe with ground almonds, meringue, cocoa powder, cinnamon, and cloves forming a crunchy shell around a soft center.
